Food Hero Awards
We know him as a leading chef, but Jamie Oliver is also an advocate and campaigner for kids eating healthy. Together with his celebrity judging panel he recently announced the five winners of the inaugural Food Hero Awards and our very own, James McLennan won Food Hero Entrepreneur of the Year.
The awards celebrate unsung food heroes who are positively changing the Australian food system and the entrepreneur award is for those who are putting all their energy into making incredible produce or building a business with sustainability and healthy food for kids at its core.
James is co-founder and CEO of Farm My School, as well as founder of Grassroots Sustainability in Victoria. He has focused his career on food systems education, whole food cycles and the importance of eating local, seasonal, spray-free, nutrient-dense food.
Years of determination, passion and experience in the sustainability sector led him to create Farm My School with co-founder, Ben Shaw. The groundbreaking model of food education transforms unused land within schools into regenerative market gardens that feed, educate and bring the community together.
It's more than the school community who benefit from this program, it is also connecting farmers with schools, working with local businesses and providing the local community with freshly-grown, seasonal produce.
Congratulations to the other Food Hero winners!
