School-based Cert 3 Horticulture Traineeship

Farm My School is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic individual to
join our team as a School-based Cert 3 Horticulture Trainee.

This traineeship offers a unique
opportunity for a motivated student to gain practical experience and formal training in
horticulture while contributing to the operations and growth of our innovative educational
farm.

The successful candidate will work closely with our experienced farm team to develop
their skills and knowledge in various aspects of horticulture, regenerative farming as well as
community engagement and education.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Plant Care and Maintenance: Assist in the cultivation, propagation, planting, and
maintenance of a diverse range of plant species, including fruits, vegetables, herbs,
and ornamental plants.
2. Soil Management: Participate in soil preparation, fertilization, composting, and soil
improvement activities to ensure optimal plant growth and health.
3. Pest and Disease Control: Learn and implement integrated pest management
(IPM) techniques to monitor, identify, and manage pests and diseases in an
environmentally friendly manner.
4. Irrigation and Water Management: Assist in setting up and maintaining irrigation
systems, monitor water usage, and ensure proper hydration for different plant
varieties.
5. Harvesting and Post-Harvest Handling: Participate in harvesting produce at its
peak, and learn proper post-harvest handling techniques to maintain freshness and
quality.
6. Design and Maintenance: Contribute to the design and upkeep of garden beds,
pathways, and other landscape elements to create an inviting and educational
environment for visitors.
7. Sustainable Practices: Gain an understanding of regenerative farming practices,
including composting, waste reduction, and other initiatives.
8. Educational Engagement: Assist in hosting guided tours and workshops for
students and visitors to promote horticultural knowledge and sustainable farming
concepts.
9. Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of plant care activities, growth progress,
and other relevant data for educational and operational purposes.
10. Health and Safety: Adhere to health and safety guidelines and protocols to ensure a
safe working environment for yourself and others.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:

Currently (2026) enrolled as a high school student (Year 11 or 12) and eligible to
participate in a school-based Cert 3 Horticulture traineeship program.

  • Genuine interest in horticulture, regenerative agriculture, and environmental
    conservation.
  • Strong work ethic, punctuality, and reliability.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to follow instructions and learn new concepts quickly.
  • Physical fitness and ability to perform manual tasks in various weather conditions.
  • Basic computer skills for record keeping and communication.
