Farmer Incubator Program

Farm My School team harvesting carrots

Farm My School's Farmer Incubator Program creates genuine employment pathways through formal traineeships delivered in partnership with Murray Mallee Training Company and Head Start in Geelong.

The Program

At Farm My School, we're addressing one of Australia's most pressing challenges - the declining agricultural workforce and the need for young people to find meaningful career pathways in regional Victoria.  Through our pilot site at Bellarine Secondary College and our upcoming expansion to Colac Secondary College, we're proving that schools can become dynamic centres for workforce development. We take underutilised school land and transform it into vibrant learning and employment ecosystems where young people discover career possibilities across agriculture, horticulture, and the broader food supply chain.

Currently, three young people - Paul, Charlee, and Alex - are employed on-site whilst completing Certificate III qualifications in Agriculture and Horticulture.

These aren't just work experience placements. Our trainees develop practical skills in regenerative farming, soil management, crop planning, and food processing whilst building essential workplace capabilities including teamwork, quality management, and planning. Paul leads composting and soil preparation operations, reflecting that "It's improved my life overall – physically and mentally.” The program reaches diverse learners effectively - Charlee, who finds traditional classroom learning challenging, now leads our Friday veggie box operations, "This helps me learn in new ways – and it's helping me stay in school." Whilst Alex explores agricultural science pathways in our supportive outdoor environment.
