From Soil to Curriculum — Meet Tracey Gibbs
At Farm My School, learning doesn’t stop at the classroom door. It continues into the garden beds, compost bays and veggie boxes — and that’s where Tracey Gibbs, our Education Manager, comes in.
Tracey is more than a teacher. She’s the bridge between curriculum and compost, between theory and practice. Her role is about ensuring students don’t just grow vegetables — they grow confidence, curiosity and skills that last far beyond school.
What Inspired Tracey to Join Farm My School
'Farm My School is the perfect mix of local action and global thinking. Farm My School makes a difference on the ground to many people, whilst providing a working example of how schools, communities and food production can all work together. It's amazing that I can work for an organisation that is helping to restore the vitality of land using methods that mitigate climate change.'
A Day in the Life of an Education Manager
'I help schools to visit Farm My School so kids get to see what a regenerative vegetable farm can look like — sitting right next to a school! I also work with students and teachers to use the farm as a teaching and learning tool across all types of learning areas.'
Every day is different, but each one connects students to the living systems around them. Through hands-on experiences, Tracey helps turn abstract lessons into tangible understanding.
Most Rewarding Moments
'When kids leave the farm thrilled that they have been able to eat some fresh veggies that they harvested themselves. I love how proud of themselves students feel when they harvest and cook with their classmates something really delicious to eat.'
For Tracey, these moments capture what Farm My School is all about — learning through joy and connection.
What Students Take Away
'I hope students start to think about how food production is part of our natural world, not a divorced stand-alone part of it.'
By seeing how food is grown, students gain a sense of belonging within the ecosystems that sustain them. It’s a lesson that extends far beyond school grounds.
Growing Futures
Tracey’s work embodies Farm My School’s belief that education can be both practical and profound. By connecting students to the soil, she’s helping grow a generation that understands how to care for the land and for each other.
'Farm My School provides a blueprint for how our schools and communities can work together to provide nourishment, education, opportunity and environmental health.'
