Soil health is where it begins at Farm My School.
Beneath every vegetable harvested and every seed planted is a living ecosystem working quietly to support stronger plants, better nutrition and a more resilient food system.
Soil is treated as something to nurture, not simply use. Through regenerative farming practices such as composting, green manure crops and no chemical inputs, the farm focuses on building biology back into the soil. That means supporting the microorganisms and nutrients that create healthy growing conditions naturally.

Why does this matter? Because healthy soil produces healthier food. Nutrient-rich soil helps grow vegetables that are more flavourful, resilient and nourishing for the community. It also improves water retention and reduces reliance on synthetic fertilisers – creating a farming system that is more sustainable long-term.
Soil health is also central to education at Farm My School. Students, volunteers and visitors learn that food doesn’t simply appear on supermarket shelves – it begins in the ground. Understanding the connection between soil, food and wellbeing helps build greater awareness around sustainability and food security.
We start with making our own compost to utilising green manure crops to feeding it with work juice to restore nutrients.
It is a slower process.
It is intentional.
It is regenerative.
Our soil is healthier.
Our produce is richer.
Caring for the soil is ultimately about caring for people, community and the future. When the soil thrives, everything else has a better chance to thrive too.
